Heart-Healthy Fat Facts

Fat and heart health – two words people seldom pair together. The truth – fat can be part of a tasty and healthy diet.

Fat (oils, nuts, dressings and butter) add flavor to foods. New studies show taste and satisfaction with the food we eat are key in appetite regulation. Fat adds energy in the form of calories. And, fat helps fill you up so you can go 4 to 5 hours between eating meals.

Some fats (like olive and canola oil and nuts) can also be good for your blood vessels. Our blood vessels start out smooth inside when we are babies.  Overtime, they become inflamed or develop build-up of hard plaques. It’s these plaques that contribute to strokes and heart disease. Eating certain fats keep the blood vessels healthier.

During the program you’ll learn about better fats and discover the truths about olive and coconut oils. Food sampling makes exploring new cooking options fun, so participants will trial a homemade honey mustard salad dressing.

In promotion of total health, you’ll also take a few minutes to “march” in March. Keeping active and moving every hour helps keep the heart strong and prevents dangerous blood clots. Join the Fresh Conversations program and take steps to improve your wellbeing in 2018. New members are always welcome.

Empowering you to age with confidence.
