New Year Resolutions – Go for Gut Health

Looking for a new New Year’s resolution. Tired of the traditional eat less, move more goal? Consider making eating choices for a healthy gut.

Your gut is home to over 100 trillion bacteria that have influence on our health and disease. Daily, research is learning of gut-health connections. Evidence suggests that the bacteria in the gut influences our risk for health problems like obesity, type 2 diabetes and other autoimmune diseases.

Join a local Fresh Conversation program to discover tips for feeding the good bacteria in your gut. Your gut is home to over four pounds of bacteria. The goal is to nourish the good gut bacteria and prevent the “bad” bacteria from taking over and making you sick. Learn how to enhance your health gut with sources of fiber, vitamin K and B, and probiotics.

Black beans and legumes are known to promote a health gut. Participants will have the chance to expose their taste buds to veggie burger samples. Cooking tips for making your own legume-based entrees will be shared.

Take 30 minutes for yourself this month and join a Fresh Conversations program for fun, fellowship and food. The program, sponsored by Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, is free to attend. New members are always welcome.

Empowering you to age with confidence.
