Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults. One in three older adults fall annually and those falls may lead to loss of independence and changes in lifestyles.
Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) is working to help reduce the risk and fear of falling by offering evidence based programs such as Tai Chi and A Matter of Balance. To help increase the number of these valuable classes being offered, NEI3A is seeking volunteers to help lead health promotion classes in Dubuque, Waterloo and Marshalltown. Training will be provided, with upcoming trainings starting in January.
